Fever Treatment in Haryana

A fever is due to the rise in body temperature caused by the body’s immune system. Infection is the most common cause of fever. For people from children to adults, it has an effect while in infants, even a lower fever may be due to a serious infection.

Conditions:

Body temperature determines the complexity of the fever and seeks medical help if the condition worsens.
    • The low-grade fever-Body temperature rises to 100.4 F
    • Moderate fever- Body temperature rises from 102.2 F to 104 F
    • High-grade fever- Body temperature rises to 104 F and above
    • Hyperpyrexia- Temperature above 106 F
Most of the fever subsides in 1 to 3 days. Based on the duration, it has the following conditions.
    • Acute- Fever less than 7 days
    • Subacute- Fever up to 14 days
    • Chronic or persistent- Fever continues for more than 14 days. 

Causes:

Fever is not directly related to underlying conditions. It may be caused due to the following:
  • Injury
  • Side effects of drugs
  • Over-exertion of the body
  • Pain
  • Stress
  • Teething
  • Vaccine side effects
  • Common cold or Flu
  • Autoimmune disorders

Signs and Symptoms:

Fever makes the person feel uncomfortable. Some of the common signs and symptoms are:
  • Rise in temperature
  • Shaking, shivering and chills
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Headache
  • Excessive or intermittent sweats
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Palpitations
  • Hot skin 
  • Dizziness
  • Sore eyes
  • Weakness and loss of appetite
  • Fussiness (mainly in children)
  • Sore throat and cough
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Diagnosis:

To evaluate the fever, general physicians ask a few questions followed by simple tests based on the conditions.
    • Generalised fever symptoms can be confirmed using a thermometer. A temperature greater than 100.4 F is considered a fever.
    • If symptoms persist, blood and imaging tests are required to determine the cause of the fever.

Treatment:

Minor fever can be treated through medications. A fever above 102 F requires medical attention.
  • Physicians recommend over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and Aspirin.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Applying the cool damp washcloth on the forehead reduces the temperature.

Prevention:

To make yourself free from infections and fever-causing illnesses, follow the simple ways.
  • Limit exposure to infectious agents.
  • Wash your hands often, especially before eating and after using the toilet.
  • Use hand sanitisers if water and soap are not accessible.
  • Avoid touching the nose, eyes, or mouth. It allows viruses and bacteria to enter the body.
  • Avoid contact with sick people
  • Make sure immunisations are up-to-date.
